People used to think the world of art was flat.
You had a spectrum running from really good to really bad, and if you went too far you just fell of the edge. Kablooy. Splash. There be dragons.
This may have always been a silly myth. Or, just like with the real world we live on, the situation may have changed at some point.
Either way, the world of art is currently round.
Which means if you make something so epically bad, it actually goes full circle and hits “really good” in the back of the head when it is least expecting it. Some things are so exquisitely terrible that they show humanity in its finest, which, after all, is the point of art in the first place, no?
Here is my favorite video that illustrates this point:
Conversely, sometimes you make something that is so good that it goes backwards, all the way around to the really bad section.
Like this Miley Cyrus parody video I made:
We thought it was a good idea at the time.
What about you? What are your favorite examples of art that is so bad, it's good?
Would you like me to write for you?
